Atlas is Database as a Service. Atlas helps us Visualize, Analyze, Export and build applications with our data. We will use Atlas to setup MongoDB Database in the Cloud.
Replica Sets - are a set of few connected machines (MongoDB instances) that store the same data to ensure if something happens to one of the machines the data will remain intact.
Instance - a single machine locally or in the cloud, running a certain software, in our case it is the MongoDB database.
Cluster - are groups of servers that store your data.
Clusters are group of servers are configured in Replica Set, which is a set of few connected MongoDB instances that store the same data.
An instance is a single machine locally, or in the cloud running a certain software. In this case it is MongoDB database being run in the cloud.
This setup ensures that if something happens to one of the machines in the replica set, the data will remain intact and available for use by the application by the remaining machines of the replica set.
So every time you make changes to a document or a collection, redundant copies of that data are stored within the replica set.
For learning purpose or creating small-scale applications a free tier of Atlas is a great option for storing your data.
