The following steps will guide you in creating:

  • an Atlas Organization
  • a Project within an Organization
  • a Free Tier Atlas cluster

For existing Users

Click over Build a Database

1. For New User: Create an Organization

As a part of setup. enter Name your organization and project.
Then to get started Choose a deployment option as Shared (Free)

This will Create a Shared Cluster.

You may keep all other things as default, or select nearest region:

You may keep all other things as default and click on 'Create Cluster'

click on 'Create Cluster'

Now that you have an Atlas cluster you need to grant access to your IP Address and create a Database User.
Click on Connect from the cluster view.

Click on 'Connect'

Then, select the right-most option Allow Access from Anywhere

Then, confirm your selection by clicking on button "Add IP Address". Allowing access from anywhere is not* a good security practice. Clusters that are used for production should **not have this enabled.

Then, Create a Database User with –
username: m-student | password: m-mongodb

Database User created, now Click on 'Close' button at the lower left corner of the window.

Click on 'Close'

Load the Sample Dataset

Select the "…" option in the cluster menu -> choose the "Load Sample Dataset" option, then confirm your choice.

Click over "Load Sample Dataset"

This will show 'Loading your sample dataset...'

When the dataset is loaded the graph labeled "Logical Size" on the right side of the screen should go up and display the size of the dataset that is above zero and below 512 MB. Your graph may look different than the picture below.

On sample dataset successfully loaded.

If in case you need to create a new Project within an Organization.
